Man accused of stealing phone, firing gun at Secaucus police charged with attempted murder

Two police sergeants in Secaucus were shot at overnight while responding to a call on County Avenue, according to police

A woman accused Dhanraj Dass of stealing her phone and threatening her with a gun. When officers arrived just before 9 p.m., Dass fired two shots from a doorway.

He was arrested while trying to escape the building. No officers were injured.

A shelter-in-place order was issued and later lifted overnight.

Dass is charged with criminal attempt to murder and multiple weapons offenses.
