A Bayville man is accused of climbing through a window to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl who he met on Facebook.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office says that Joseph Barden, 19, had been corresponding with the girl through Facebook. Officials say that the two exchanged photographs and messages over the course of several weeks.

Officials say that Barden climbed though the girl’s bedroom window on Jan. 19 and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Barden was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Ocean County officials say that they want to remind parents to monitor their children’s social media activity in order to protect them from potential predators.
