A new traffic roundabout is now open at the intersection of West Hobart Gap Road and Walnut Street in Livingston.

Essex County officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for the new traffic circle, which was installed at an intersection where officials say several crashes have occurred.

Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. said the roundabout is designed to improve safety and traffic flow by directing vehicles through a coordinated single lane.

Other improvements include a reduced speed limit, roadway lighting, warning signs, pavement markings, pedestrian crosswalks and bicycle-accessible ramps.
