The opportunity to see a live show indoors may be just around the corner for the first time in six months.
New Jersey performing arts centers were given the OK last week to reopen with some restrictions under COVID-19 guidelines.
South Orange Performing Arts Center executive director Craig Sumberg says that live, indoor performances will resume at the center on Oct. 8. Audience members must wear masks and will be socially distant. About 100 people will be allowed in the audience.
“We’re lining up some stuff we think our community will like,” Sumberg says.
Tickets will also be sold for a livestream of the concerts for those who wish to view at home.
“We know that there are people in our audience who won’t come in for a while, so that’s why the hybrid programming works well,” Sumberg says.
SOPAC, a nonprofit performing arts center, plans to announce the artist schedule soon. And it is not alone in bringing back live shows. Centenary State Company in Hackettstown will hold its Fringe Festival of one-actor plays next month.
More theaters are expected to announce plans to welcome back audiences and live performances soon.
