A New Jersey police department is getting its first black police chief.
Linden officials swore in 47-year-old Jonathan Parham, a 25-year veteran, on Thursday.
Parham says he's honored to be chosen for the post and says he realizes that the position could inspire African-American children to become police officers.
Parham is a graduate of West Point Command and Leadership School, has conducted law-enforcement training in other counties and has served as the accreditation manager for the department.
