Leak from Con Edison facility leaves unknown amount of oil in Bronx River

The Department of Environmental Conservation has confirmed that an oil leak from a Con Edison facility in Yonkers has left the Bronx River with an unknown amount of oil.
The spill, which was reported Thursday morning to the DEC, released 2,205 gallons of cooling fluid. The amount that reached the Bronx River via storm drains is unknown at this time.
They say there is no known public exposure concerns, and they are coordinating with the U.S. Coast Guard to oversee the cleanup process.
Members of the Bronx River Alliance are warning residents against having contact with the river.
"With this amount of oil, and other chemical contaminants in the water right now, this is a particularly bad time to come into contact with this water. So we're really asking folks to exercise as much caution as possible," said Christian Murphy, an ecology and education manager at Bronx River Alliance.
