New Jersey state leaders gathered Thursday to celebrate the state's progress in electrifying medium and heavy-duty vehicles.
Though trucks make up only 4% of vehicles on the road they account for nearly a quarter of the state's transportation emissions.
Officials say electrifying trucks can cut harmful smog and particulate pollution that threatens public health, create economic growth through lower operating costs, new jobs and investments in clean energy and fight climate change which is critical in states like New Jersey
Transportation remains the single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in New Jersey, responsible for nearly 40% of the state’s total output.
