The last person known to have seen missing Rutgers student Morty Wortman appeared in court Monday in Toms River.

Adam Zalouk was in Ocean County Court for a post-indictment hearing on charges unrelated to Wortman’s disappearance 31 days ago. It was related to charges from July in which Zalouk allegedly threatened Wortman with a knife and then vandalized his car with that knife.

Wortman’s family says Zalouk was with the Rutgers student the night he went missing in Jackson Township on Nov. 21. Since then, there have been extensive searches in that area of Ocean County, but no sign of the missing man.

Wortman’s brother and mother attended the court hearing.

“We’re still searching on our own, conducting our own searches and doing everything we can do,” said Ivan Marks. “I just want my little brother…whatever that looks like, however we can come to that resolution.”

During the hearing, Superior Court Judge Guy Ryan ordered Zalouk to attend an anger management course and to stay in the country. Otherwise, he’ll be sent to jail to await trial.

The Ocean County prosecutor is investigating Wortman’s disappearance.

Zalouk’s attorney chose not to comment on the case following the hearing. His next court appearance is in February.
