A Lakewood Township woman accused of killing her two daughters appeared in court this afternoon for a detention hearing.
Naomi Elkins, 27, waived her right to the hearing, ensuring she will remain in jail during the proceedings.
Court documents reveal the tragic sequence of events on June 25. Elkins allegedly killed her 1-and-3-year-old daughters after returning home from day care.
The children were found unresponsive in the bathtub and one of them was stabbed. Elkins reportedly called medical services after realizing her actions. Her attorney, Mitchell Ansell, stated she has a history of severe mental illness.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 7 at the Ocean County courthouse, where Elkins will remain in custody.
