Lakewood woman accused of drowning kids found not guilty by reason of insanity

A Lakewood woman accused of killing her two children was found not guilty by reason of insanity but was ordered to be held in a secured psychiatric facility, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Naomi Elkins was accused of drowning her 1-year-old and 3-year-old in separate bathtubs in their house. She also admitted to stabbing one of the children in the stomach, according to officials.

Court documents revealed that Elkins told police she had troubling thoughts the day prior to the June 2024 drowning.

Elkins is in a mental health facility, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
