A 20-year-old man driving 106 mph crashed into an off-duty police officer's car, leaving the officer in critical condition, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
The incident occurred after midnight Friday on Cedar Bridge Avenue.
Prosecutors say Edwin Ramirez-Carranza ignored a red light, striking the officer's vehicle in his Chevy Silverado, which landed in a drain basin near a Quick Check with its front end wrecked.
Officers found marijuana in Ramirez-Carranza's car. He faces charges of aggravated assault, along with summonses for operating an unregistered vehicle and reckless driving.
