It's going to be a gorgeous Labor Day Weekend ahead - Beaches will be packed for all to enjoy one last summer weekend. However - safety is a growing concern as Hurricane Erin caused significant beach erosion.

According to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Hurricane Erin caused some notable erosion, but overall, beaches held up well to the storm. Northern Ocean County beaches, like Point Pleasant to Seaside Heights, experienced moderate erosion with a heavy wave runup.

In spots like Bay Head, there was some damage to dune fences. The big thing to be concerned about is the hidden danger of those shifting sandbars-- you can be 20 feet from the shore and be in the water over your head. Most people News 12 spoke with plan on steering clear of the water this weekend, just to be on the safe side.

"You really couldn't notice anything other than earlier in the week. The water was pretty rough. Certainly couldn't go in. Didn't wanna go in anyway," Anthony, visiting from South Plainfield.

"I get super worried about that," said Stephanie, from Lavalette. "You can't go in the water when the lifeguards aren't here, for starters. It's been a problem, so I get very nervous."

It's the last full weekend of summer and since the weather looks great, it will be a win for Shore businesses and tourism. Those planning to enjoy the water at the beach should stick with a buddy and swim near lifeguards.
