As Monmouth County Freehold Director Tom Arnone spoke to the media, about two dozen people lined up on the boardwalk in Belmar to purchase beach badges. Arnone says the county received $108 million to help fund COVID-19 safety measures strictly for beach towns.
Lifeguards will be separated, showers will be no-touch sensor operated, and every town will have its own set of safety precautions in place. Arnone had a word for out of town visitors.
"Instead of me coming all the way down and being angry, we are going to give you the tool to know what is what,” says Arnone. "All seasonal badges? Are they limited daily badges? Whatever the rules are. Are there parking changes? All those will be on our website, on our county website to go to, so please allow us to be your partner to make sure we make the transition very comfortable and easy.”

A test run took place Saturday in Belmar, where the line for beach badges reached several blocks long. Mayor Mark Walsifer criticized publications who did not show social distancing measures of the crowds on the boardwalk and said for the most part everyone was compliant on one of the warmest Saturdays of 2020.
