? Two young children are fighting for their lives after an alleged hit-and-run incident took place in Jersey City Friday morning.
Police say the two children, ages 6 and 7, were in the back of their mother?s Kia Sportage as she backed out of their home. According to investigators, a black Cadillac Escalade then came barreling down the street and hit the Sportage, causing the two children to be ejected from the vehicle. Police say the children were not wearing seatbelts.
Police say the driver of the Escalade, 20-year-old Allan Serles, hit two parked cars and a concrete wall after striking the Sportage. They say after crashing into the wall, Serles fled on foot. Serles later turned himself in to police. He is facing a number of charges, including aggravated assault with an automobile and driving with a suspended license.
Both children remain in critical condition at Newark Hospital. Their mother was treated and released from a Jersey City hospital.
