Hudson County residents can hit the water easier now thanks to the opening of the first boat house in Hoboken in decades.
The Hoboken Boathouse officially opened its doors Wednesday. The city-owned location will house the non-profit Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse.
Water enthusiasts like Daniel Gans are stoked to have easier access to the Hudson River. Gans has been kayaking the river for nearly 10 years.
"If you were from Hoboken and wanted to try kayaking in the urban setting you'd have to go to New York," says Gans.
The Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse had already offered free kayaking days, but the new spot will allow them to expand.
The boathouse was built as part of an agreement between a condo developer and the city. It is an exact replica of one that was built on the same spot in the mid 1800s.
