Community college students in the Bronx are getting the opportunity to transfer to some of the nation’s top universities thanks to the Kaplan Leadership Program.

The program supports low-income, high-achieving students throughout the whole transfer process and beyond. Scholars say they get help with applications, essays, resumes and even financial assistance to minimize student debt.

“We have so many different workshops that assist us with professional and leadership experience. We go from campus visits to college mock interviews. It’s really amazing,” said Minerva Ramirez Sencion, a Kaplan Leadership Program Scholar who currently attends Hostos Community College in Mott Haven.

Program leaders say only 16% of U.S. community college students earn a bachelor’s degree, but 92% of Kaplan scholars do.

Applications open this month. Visit this link for more information on the program and how to apply.
