July 27 marks National New Jersey Day
Did you know that July 27 is National New Jersey Day?
Today is the first time National New Jersey Day has been celebrated.
NationalDayCalendar.com is recognizing each state in the United States with their own day in the order that they joined the Union.
New Jersey was first settled in 1660 by the Dutch, but the British soon took control in 1664.
New Jersey was the third state to join the Union and one of the 13 original colonies.
Due to New Jersey’s central location among the colonies, more battles during the Revolutionary War took place here than any other state, according to NationalCalendarDay.com.
The Garden State was also the first state to sign the Bill of Rights.
Many important and famous people had roots in New Jersey, including inventor Thomas Edison, musician Bruce Springsteen and “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage.
NationalCalendarDay.com says that New Jersey residents should observe the holiday by using #NationalNewJerseyDay on social media.
NationalCalendarDay.com will honor each state with their own day once a week until all 50 states have their own national day.
