An Atlantic County judge has ordered a one-week work stoppage on the dune project in Margate until the issue of drainage can be addressed.
The ruling comes after the dunes caused large ponds of standing water to form between houses and the dunes after a period of heavy rain. Those ponds blocked access to several beach access points.
Margate officials initially fought against the dune project, which they deemed unnecessary and harmful to the shoreline, but they ultimately lost.
The project will now be stopped while engineers address the drainage issues.
The project is part of a statewide effort to protect the shoreline following the devastation from Superstorm Sandy.
