A Ridgewood salon owner is putting her sheers to use to help unemployed job seekers make a good first impression.
Irene Brown, owner of Ultra Look Salon, usually charges $25 for her services. After watching potential and current customers fall under the weight of a sinking job market, Brown decided to use her skills to lend a hand to the unfortunate.
?Instead of sitting, doing nothing, I would like to help out,? says Brown. ?It makes me feel good to do good things.?
The salon owner takes people at their word and does not demand proof of unemployment for the free haircut.
Brown?s customers admire her for it.
"Just as a paying customer, I'm really happy to help contribute to Irene,? says Frances Elkblom. ?This way she can stay here and help people in need.?
