The lighthouse at Sandy Hook has reopened after nearly a year of renovations.
The major restoration project lasted about 10 months.
Work included fixing the exterior walls, which had been stained.
A reopening ceremony took place Sunday at the Gateway National Recreation Area.
"This is a big day for the staff,” says Peter McCarthy, unit manager of Gateway National recreation area. “They are looking forward to getting this out. We've got our Sunday best out. We get the opportunity to talk a little bit more about the historical aspects of Sandy Hook."
The Fort Hancock museum, which shut down eight years for rehabilitation, also reopened this weekend.
