Jersey Shore BlueClaws ripen into Jersey Tomatoes for a saucy night at the ballpark
The Jersey Shore BlueClaws will briefly rebrand as the "Jersey Tomatoes" for a game in August aimed at celebrating New Jersey's agriculture industry.
The team announced it will adopt the alternate identity Aug. 6 in partnership with the Jersey Fresh program.
"Agriculture, like baseball, is a vital part of New Jersey's identity, and this partnership with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws is an exciting way to showcase the quality and pride behind Jersey Fresh products," New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Ed Wengryn said.
The alternate branding features a logo of a tomato flying through the sky wearing sunglasses reflecting the outline of New Jersey. Players will wear green caps and red jerseys with "Jersey Tomatoes" across the chest.
BlueClaws General Manager Bob McLane said the event will highlight both tomatoes and the broader farming sector.
"We will be celebrating, of course, Jersey Tomatoes, but the agriculture industry at large for what is going to be a special night this August and all summer long," McLane said.
According to state figures, New Jersey's agriculture industry remains a major economic driver, with more than 9,900 farms and 690,000 acres of farmland generating over $1.6 billion in sales as of 2024. The state ranks sixth nationally in tomato production, harvesting about 70 million pounds valued at $56.5 million.
