Serving your community doesn't always mean wearing a badge or a uniform.

In Jackson Township, residents and officials gathered this week to honor a longtime public servant whose work has quietly shaped the town for more than four decades.

A street in Jackson has been renamed Gloria Lane in recognition of Gloria Yanis, who has worked for the township since 1981.

Yanis began her career in the tax collector's office and later served in the municipal court, as court clerk, and in the tax assessor's office.
