A South Jersey teen is a savage, according to her mother. It's even printed on the halo she is using as she recovers from a serious spinal injury.

Makaylah, 17, was hit by a car last month as she got on her school bus in Gloucester Township. The fire crew that saved her just visited her to see how she was doing. They say they were stunned to see her up and about, making great progress.

Makaylah’s mother says she has tackled her recovery like a savage. She is forever grateful to first responders. Their quick action last month led to a hopeful Jersey Proud recovery.
