Jersey City firefighters remembered one of their youngest Saturday, also a father and Marine, who died from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident.
According to witnesses, Eduardo Pena, 25, was on his motorcycle on Kennedy Boulevard when an SUV turned at a light and crashed into his bike. They say Pena?s motorcycle went out of control; he flew off and crashed into another car before landing on the street.
A memorial flag hangs at the Engine 15 firehouse and candles and pictures sit at the site of the crash.
Pena leaves behind a 2-month-old daughter. His friends and family say it is hard for them to comprehend how he could survive a year in Iraq, only to die so close to the neighborhood he grew up in.
Pena will be laid to rest Monday. Firefighters say they are planning a special dinner to raise money for his daughter.
