Jay-Z is explaining why he and his family were seated during the national anthem at Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
The well-known rapper and songwriter says it wasn't a silent protest, and it wasn’t premeditated, but that he was just doing his job.
His Roc Nation corporation is a partner with the NFL for the game's pregame and halftime entertainment.
Jay-Z tells TMZ that he and his wife, Beyonce, were distracted as they talked about the show and were paying attention to microphone levels and speaker layout while Demi Lovato performed “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
