Travelers may think twice before driving through the Garden State.
A recent study by Allstate Insurance found drivers in Newark are the worst in the country. Allstate looked at collision rates in major cities. It found Newark drivers have a 94 percent likelihood of getting into an accident. The study also found Elizabeth, Paterson and Jersey City ranked among the 10 worst cities in the nation.
?I think the reality is New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the country,? an Allstate representative said. ?When you have a lot of people, you have a lot of cars. You have the potential for a lot of accidents.?
Meanwhile, a PublicMind poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University found New Jersey residents think highly of their driving skills. The FDU poll found 55 percent of New Jersey residents say New Yorkers are worse drivers.
