Prosecutor: Infant ingests cocaine in Bergenfield; 2 arrested

Officials say they received a 911 call about an infant experiencing a medical episode. Testing later revealed cocaine was in the child’s system.

Two people were charged with drug possession and child endangerment after officials say an infant ingested cocaine in Bergenfield.
Officials say the Bergenfield Police Department received a 911 call about an infant experiencing a medical episode on Monday. The child was taken to a local hospital where testing revealed that the child had ingested cocaine.
According to Bergen County prosecutors, an investigation revealed Raymond Sylvester, of Bergenfield, and Leshawnda Nixon, of Brooklyn, New York, endangered the welfare of the child on one occasion.
Sylvester and Nixon were both arrested in Hackensack. They were taken to Bergen County Jail pending their first court appearance.
