North Brunswick residents are on alert after a series of supposed bias attacks against people of Indian descent. The latest victim says he was attacked in broad daylight.
Rohit Patel, 57, is recovering at home after being attacked on Wednesday. He sustained several stiches and broken teeth. His family believes he was targeted because he is Indian.
"It's a hate crime," says Dipen Patel, the victim's son. "He did it to my dad. My dad could have died."
Nyle Kilgore was arrested and charged with the alleged attack on Patel. North Brunswick police say there have been several bias attacks against Indian Americans near Kilgore's former home at the Colony Oaks apartments.
Police believe there may be more victims out there. They are urging those victims to come forward.
The Patel family says they are fearful because Kilgore posted bail.
North Brunswick police say Kilgore will face multiple charges, but would not specify if a bias crime is one of them.
