Two men were arrested by ICE Sunday, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Representative Rob Menendez, whose district includes Union City, posted to X Sunday "My team and I are aware of concerning reports of an ICE raid conducted in Union City this morning outside of a church. We are working with local officials and community members to learn more details, which will inform next steps."
According to a spokesperson for DHS, "ICE did NOT target or raid a church on Sunday Feb. 15 in Union City, New Jersey."
Officers were conducting targeted surveillance for more than a mile before stopping a vehicle, according to officials.
"ICE officers arrested Emilio Ruiz-Esquivel, an illegal alien from El Salvador who was issued a final order of removal from an immigration judge after he failed to show up for his immigration hearing, and Oscar Leonel Telon Gonzalez, an illegal alien from Guatemala who illegally entered the United States at an unknown date or time," said a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security.
