A Hudson Valley couple who told News 12 they were stranded in Dubai amid travel disruptions in the Middle East has made it home safely.
Elisse and Dave Dodge, of Jefferson Valley, said their scheduled flight from Dubai to John F. Kennedy International Airport took off Sunday, bringing them back to the United States after nearly two stressful weeks overseas.
The couple had traveled to the region late last month and boarded the MSC Euribia cruise ship before escalating tensions across the Middle East disrupted travel.
They previously told News 12 their cruise was canceled shortly after they boarded and that they began receiving emergency alerts warning people to shelter in place while hearing sirens, jets overhead and explosions in the distance.
The couple said they struggled to reach both the U.S. State Department and their airline while trying to find a way home.
Dave Dodge had been documenting their experience and efforts to return to the U.S. on social media throughout the ordeal.
On Monday, the couple shared an update with News 12 confirming they were finally back home.
“12 days in Dubai… stressful. Waking up on American soil, priceless,” Dave Dodge wrote in a message.
The couple also expressed gratitude to those who supported them while they were trying to get home.
“We are thankful to News 12 for getting our story out and grateful for everyone who was praying for us and following the events,” they said.
The Dodges said they are relieved to be back with their family after what they described as a nerve-racking experience overseas.
