House set to vote again on bailout plan
The House is scheduled to try for a second time this week to pass a $700 billion economic rescue package.Lawmakers in the House rejected an earlier version of the bill Monday. The Senate passed a new version of the bailout Wednesday.Under the plan, the government would buy bad mortgage-related securities and other troubled assets from financial institutions. Those in favor of the bailout say it will allow frozen credit to flow again and prevent a recession.President Bush and senators McCain and Obama have reached out to lawmakers in hopes of picking up their support.
