House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) visited the Bronx Charter School for Excellence today, saying it should be a model for the nation.
Last week the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to give more federal dollars to charter schools nationwide.
While Cantor has pressed for more funding in charter schools, he says that in the past, Mayor Bill de Blasio has tried to limit it.
"It's all about the kids. And if we're afraid of change, we ought not be. Because this is change to try and affect access to a more quality education which, as we know, means a more successful future," he says.
In a statement, de Blasio's office defends the mayor's stance, saying he's keeping the children's best interests in mind.
The bill for federal funding for charters will now head to the Senate.
