A homeless man is accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy at a park in Morristown.

John Dowd, 56, was charged last week with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Morris County prosecutors. Authorities say Dowd is homeless and is known to regularly visit Morristown.

Prosecutors say the assault took place on May 9. They say the 4-year-old victim reported that he was sexually assaulted by an unknown man while at George Gramby Memorial Park.

Dowd was located and arrested. He is currently being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility until a detention hearing.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit at 973-285-6200, or the Morristown Police Department at 973-538-2200.
