Members of the Holtsville community gathered Wednesday night to push back against a plan to build a lithium-ion battery storage facility nearby.

The storage plant would be at the corner of Express Drive South and Morris Avenue.

It’s already received approval from the New York Public Service Commission.

The $160 million facility is within a mile of three schools in the Sachem Central School District.

Residents say the facility is a fire hazard, which puts families and school children in danger.

A website for Holtsville Energy Storage says, “Battery energy storage facilities make great neighbors. They are quiet, clean, and safe.”
