Holiday travelers in New Jersey will see a greater police presence in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris.
The Port Authority stationed more officers at its airports, bus terminals, train stations and Hudson River crossings. State Police are also increasing patrols throughout the holiday.
Motorists will pay less for gasoline in New Jersey. AAA says the average price for regular is $1.98 per gallon, which is 76 cents lower than in 2014.
AAA says more than 1.2 million New Jersey residents are expected to travel more than 50 miles this Thanksgiving weekend, and nearly 46 million worldwide. However, most will do so by car. In fact, the country's biggest travel day proved to be not so busy after all.
Travelers at Newark Liberty International Airport say it looked like a ghost town and that everything went smoothly.
"With all the hype and all the added security I thought it would be worse, but it wasn't bad at all," said Rick Treadwell, who was traveling to New Jersey.
There was heavy vehicle traffic on Wednesday afternoon. That's considered standard for most days, although it remained heavy throughout Wednesday evening.
