A nonprofit in Hoboken is encouraging people to thrift for a cause.
Saint Mary's Advocates thrift store is hosting its first fundraiser since separating from Hoboken University Medical Center.
"It will show people what we’re doing in the community but also how well you can dress as a thrift store shopper," says store manager Lisa Vickery.
Thrifting is one of the hottest fashion trends, and donations given by the Saint Mary's thrift shop are a trend in their community. "Donations from our town are turned into sales and that money goes into organizations, locally and nationally," says volunteer Nita Patel.
Their first event, Closet to Community, is on Thursday from 7-10 p.m. at the Stevens Howe Center. The funds will go toward scholarships for students in the medical field. Tickets are on sale now for $75 and can be bought at the door ahead of the event.
