Anyone who wants a chance to test out the latest in technology can have the chance if they have a Hoboken library card.
The Hoboken Public Library is taking learning to the next level with the Makerspace lab in the library’s basement.
“People come in and just play with things,” says Sacha Chavez, who runs the space.
Visitors have the chance to try out new technologies and create all sorts of scientific experiments.
“Marble magic, deals with mechanics and gravity, robotics, 3D printer, button makers, virtual reality,” lists Chavez.
Organizers that places like Makerspace may be fun, but also provide an important resource to the world.
“Not in this library, but some surgeons who ordered something from overseas, they were waiting for that tool to come in. It didn’t, so they came to their library, to the Makerspace to make the tool that would actually help them with surgery,” says Hoboken Library director Lina Podles.
“We want to enlighten, entertain and educate,” says program director Heidi Schwab.
Hoboken Makerspace is open every Monday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m.
