Police officers in Somerset County who were conducting a wellness check shot a person who was armed with a knife, according to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Officials say the officers were responding to a home on Cornell Trail in Hillsborough on Thursday afternoon. They say that when the officer got inside the house, they saw a man who was holding a knife. Officials say that they shot the man as he moved toward them.
The officers gave the man medical aid and took him to the hospital. He is listed in critical condition.
Officials say the officer also found the bodies of two people on the second floor of the home – a man and a woman.
An autopsy will be conducted on the victims to determine how they died.
The names of the suspect and the victims were not released.
