An explosion inflicted second-degree burns on a man making fireworks Saturday in Hillsborough, police say.

Officers say they were called to the home on Three Bridges Road just before 4 a.m.

They determined that the explosion was caused by the man mixing chemicals together while making the fireworks.

The man refused medical attention and is in stable condition, according to authorities.

Police say the incident remains under investigation.
