High school athletic director suspended after calling Hitler a 'good leader'
Nutley's Board of Education has suspended the high school's athletic director after district leaders say during an assembly he talked about how Adolf Hitler was a "good leader" with "bad moral character and intentions."
The board made the decision Monday night on Joe Piro, who has been the athletic director at Nutley High School for 13 years.
According to Madison Schools Superintendent Mark Schwarz, the presentation took place at an assembly aimed at promoting positive leadership values that all Madison High School students were required to attend.
Schwarz says Piro showed the photo of Hitler as part of a side-by-side comparison with Martin Luther King Jr.
Schwarz says all presentations from outside speakers will now be screened in advance.
