A Kinnelon police officer who rescued a driver from a burning car last week says that he didn't realize he was so close to danger.
The rescue was caught on a police car dashboard camera. As the smoke from the car intensifies, the officers cut loose and then pull the unconscious woman from behind the wheel. Twenty seconds after pulling the driver to safety, the car bursts into flames.
"We weren't thinking so much of the danger towards us," says Officer Rickey Ferriola. "We just had to get this lady out. It's our jobs. We have to get out of there to safety."
Officer Ferriola also says he and his partner didn't initially realize the car caught fire because they immediately went to give the woman medical attention.
That driver, Dawn Milkosky, was not seriously injured. She was charged with drunken driving.
