In just a few hours, the polls will open, and the state will decide who will be the next governor.

Preparations have been underway for weeks, and the candidates have been making their rounds - so News 12 is providing information about what you need to know before you go to the polls.

There are three options when it comes to voting: vote by mail ballot, in-person early voting and in-person at your polling place on Election Day.

In-person early voting has officially wrapped up for this election cycle and over 1.2 million New Jersey residents took that opportunity.

Don't worry if you haven’t gotten a chance to cast your vote yet.

You can still use the mail-in option, if you can get to a secure ballot drop box in your county or to your county’s Board of Elections office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. You can also put it in the mail. However, it must be postmarked on or before 8 p.m. on Election Day.

If you plan on voting in person at your polling place, here’s what you need to know:

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Garden State.

You must be registered to vote.

You don’t need ID, but make sure you know your polling place.

At the last check, over 700,000 people voted early in person. Nearly 580,000 voted by mail in ballots and over 1.2 million New Jersey residents have already voted in the general election.
