Saturday’s storm dropped about 16 inches of snow on Toms River – the weight of which was too much for the bubble over the sports complex formerly known as the Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex.
This is not the first time it has happened. The roof had collapsed after Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
Toms River Fire Prevention Inspectors IAFF Local 5303 posted on Facebook their inspectors “were called out to a ‘building collapse’ of a membrane sports bubble.”
The post continued saying “nonessential utilities were secured and building was posted unsafe.”
There are some indoor track meets that had been scheduled to be held there in a few days.
