Harriet Tubman's story inspires new generation
Rita Daniels, the great, great, great grandniece of Harriet Tubman and co-author of "Harriet Tubman: Military Scout & Tenacious Visionary," said that people of all ages are thrilled to learn more about Tubman's life and legacy.
A book signing was held in Trumbull over the weekend for a new book about Harriet Tubman, the American abolitionist who played a pivotal role in helping to abolish slavery and promote human rights.
Rita Daniels, the great, great, great grandniece of Harriet Tubman and co-author of "Harriet Tubman: Military Scout & Tenacious Visionary," said that people of all ages are thrilled to learn more about Tubman's life and legacy. "A lot of excitement, happiness — mainly because this is a woman who defied the odds," Daniels said.
Tubman's remarkable life is a testament to her strength and resilience, Daniels noted. "You can't read and you can't write, but you were still able to make it to the age of 92 and not get caught," she said.
The book, released by Simon & Schuster, highlights Tubman's importance in American history. "This book is something that everyone should have, everyone should read, because Harriet Tubman is a part of the best part of America's history," said Wayne Winston, a talk radio host from Bridgeport.
