Hamilton man charged with murder in death of girlfriend found during welfare check

A Hamilton man has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend, who was found unresponsive during a welfare check at the apartment they shared, authorities said.

Carlos Pean, 29, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Adeline Alfred, 29, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers with the Hamilton Police Division responded at about 7 a.m. March 24 to an apartment in the first block of Bradford Avenue to conduct a welfare check.

Police said officers found Alfred unresponsive in a bedroom, where she appeared to be the victim of a physical assault. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pean was arrested March 28 in Tinton Falls.

Prosecutors have filed a motion to detain Pean pending trial.
