A popular mom and pop costume shop in Rutherford is closing its doors for good after 37 years in business.
Cliff Witmeyer and his mother opened up the Fun-Ghoul Costume Company on April 1, 1985. The store has become a staple in North Jersey for decades.
"After 37 years, I believe it's time to go," says Witmeyer.
Witmeyer says big box pop-up stores and online shopping are to blame for the demise of his store. He says people tell him that they can't believe the store is closing - but when he asks them where they got their costumes last year, many say Amazon.
The costume rental store that's a few doors down from Fun-Ghoul is sticking around. There are more than 7,000 authentic costumes to choose from.
There's a going-out-of-business sale with items listed for half price. The store is slated to close for good on New Year's Eve.
