Group offers recommendations for NJ hospitals to prevent medical errors
A non-profit group says simple changes can help New Jersey hospitals cut the number of preventable deaths by up to two-thirds. About 98,000 Americans die each year from preventable medical errors, according to a new report from the Institute of Medicine. Computerization is one recommendation for hospitals to reduce potentially deadly errors. Mark Jakubicki, a dietician at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in Hamilton, says computerizing orders and prescriptions has made work easier and patients safer. There are several different programs hospitals can choose from to help reduce errors. Leap Frog is one of the most user-friendly for patients because safety rankings for hospitals who participate are available online. Related Information: The Leap Frog Group
