Gov. Phil Murphy has signed an executive order to extend the utility shutoff grace period until March 15.
The order prevents utility companies from shutting off water and server service if the customer cannot pay. The legislation also requires utilities to continue offering interest-free payment plans.
The grace period was initially implemented early on in the COVID-19 pandemic after many New Jersey residents lost their jobs.
