The possibility of former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie making a bid for the governorship is energizing New Jersey's Republican base.
Many within the party consider Christie the Republican's best shot at unseating incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine. It has been seven years since anyone from the GOP was in charge of New Jersey's executive branch.
Christie resigned from office with a perfect record as U.S. attorney, a job he loved.
"I was always hopping out of bed to get to work because I knew that we had important fascinating work to do that was going to make a difference in the lives of people across the state and that is exhilarating," he says.
Though he hasn't made a decision yet, an announcement either way on his candidacy is expected soon. Christie could announce a bid to run in a matter of weeks.
