Good Samaritan saves woman whose car plunged into Passaic River
A resident from Belleville is being deemed a hero after jumping into the frigid waters of the Passaic River to save a woman whose car plunged into the water.
The incident happened Monday afternoon.
According to officials, Mariam Egberongbe, 22, of Orange, hit a guardrail while driving, causing her car to plunge into the river.
Officials say a man, identified as Michael James, saw the accident and sprang into action.
The vehicle was recovered by Lyndhurst, Wallington and Oradell dive teams.
